  1. Councillor Kennedy                                                                                                                       Can we have a report as to why many of our council tenants have received very high increases to their rents? (Some got increases of over 75%).
Report: In preparation for implementation of the National Rent Scheme Kildare County Council have been updating their files in accordance with the approved Differential Rent Scheme.

The calculation of rent has not changed or increased. A change in rent (either increase or decrease) is generally due to a change in circumstances, usually associated with household make up or income details. We are encountering a high number of changes in household composition and income which were not previously notified to us.

It is detailed in tenancy agreements that tenants must notify the Council if there is a change in circumstances.

The National Rent Scheme is due for implementation in January 2015 and all rents will be calculated on total household income, with a minimum rent of €30 being set. Updating files in accordance with the DRS will ensure a smoother transition for tenants.

  2. That this council address the problem of pedestrians getting saturated by passing traffic on the Whitewater side of Cutlery Road, Newbridge when it rains and also address the uneven flagstones on the footpath of the same side.

Report: The Roads Design Department will examine this issue.

Following a meeting of council officials and Dara Park residents, that the area engineer and Environment section of the council organise to have the first section at the rear of the houses resurfaced as nothing has been done with it since the houses were built.

Report: The Area Office is willing to organise and tender for the works subject to the availability of funding. To date a source of funding has not been identified.

When a safety assessment is carried out, that the council erect bollards around one of the greens in Dara Park as a pilot project.

PATRICK'S DAY PARADE 2014]]>Thu, 20 Mar 2014 12:14:29 GMThttp://www.paddykennedy.ie/blog/newbridge-st-patricks-day-parade-2014Thank you to everyone who supported the Parade on Monday. It was the biggest in the ten years I was involved. The Gardai estimated that 20,000 people turned out. I would like to thank the Gardai, Civil Defence, all the Stewards, Tesco, Woodies, Johnston Haulage, Ger Meade, Ollie Kearns Electrician Kildare. I would also like to thank all the members of Newbridge Town Council, Johnny Peters, Myles Wickham, Brenda Donohue who done a great job as M C. Enda Dunne Newpark Electrical for lighting up our Town Hall for the weekend free vof any charge. I would like to thank Ryston for supplying the food.

The standard of floats was top class well done to everyone. You all put in such a marvellous efford well done. To the committee Mayor Mick Deely, Teresa Harrison, Anne Green, Mick Donohue you are some team for one team.

Next Year people are asking will it happen I am now making a commitment that no matter happens with Council elections it will go ahead regardless. The Parade is bigger that any one man or woman or Council.

]]><![CDATA[February 26th, 2014]]>Wed, 26 Feb 2014 20:35:41 GMThttp://www.paddykennedy.ie/blog/february-26th-2014I launched my Election Campaign on the Friday 31st January in Judge Roy Beans Newbridge as a candidate for Newbridge Kildare Municipal Council Election on 23th May 2014.
My track record is what I fall back on. I've spent my political career serving the community. One thousand voters in the Newbridge Town and almost two thousand voters in the Kildare Area of the County Council placed their trust in me by giving their No1 vote in the last local election in 2009. Just lost out by less than 1000 votes in 2011 General Election.
I have been Chairman of nine committee's and boards and Deputy Chair of two and am a member of twenty nine different Committee's. I am a Town Councillor for ten years and a County Councillor for the past five years.
I don't fail my supporters. No matter what the problem is, let it be big or small. If I am new to you just ask and I am confident that people will vouch for my work ethic. I will if elected work hard on behalf of every resident in the new Newbridge Kildare Municipal Council regardless of who they vote for or where they live. I am asking you for your No 1 to allow me to represent you in this a time of massive change and I will make sure you will get the benefit these new Municipal Council will bring.

I promise to use the new powers that the new Municipal Councils will be given to make sure all our community groups are given the funds they badly need to continue their hard work on behalf our residents. I will be thinking outside the box and not always blaming lack of funds for not getting projects completed.
I could dwell on the abolishing of Town Councils but instead I am now studying the new power that the new Council are given and I will make sure I am ready if elected to implement and work hard on delivering on all the benefits that these new powers will bring from day one of the Municipal Council. It is most important that whoever is elected must be informed on all the new power that the new Municipal Councils will bring and be ready to implement the new powers. New or previous Councillors elected must have a proven record of working hard for their community and families and a promise to continue to do so. They must not be one issue candidate and also work hard with all other elected representatives as you get nothing done without the support of others no matter what job you are in.
